Protection and WASH services
The Protection and WASH Services project, funded by Care Afghanistan and implemented by HWPSDO, ran from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023, in Badghis province. Targeting 24,560 beneficiaries, the project aimed to improve hygiene, provide life-saving WASH services, and address the immediate needs of vulnerable populations, including IDPs and host communities. Key activities included distributing 960 hygiene kits to internally displaced households, conducting MHM (Menstrual Hygiene Management) training for women and girls, and rehabilitating two water sources, benefiting around 240 families with access to clean water. The project also focused on gender issues by establishing three safe spaces for survivors of violence, providing MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support) and legal services, and resolving 45 cases of violence. Additionally, 280 NFI kits were distributed to vulnerable women and girls, and a KAP assessment informed further violence prevention interventions. Overall, the project improved sanitation, health, and gender support services, while offering short-term employment through community-based WASH and water resource projects.
