Protection and WASH services

The Protection and WASH Services project, funded by Care Afghanistan and implemented by HWPSDO, ran from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023, in Badghis province. Targeting 24,560 beneficiaries, the project aimed to improve hygiene, provide life-saving WASH services, and address the immediate needs of vulnerable populations, including IDPs and host communities. Key activities included distributing 960 hygiene kits to internally displaced households, conducting MHM (Menstrual Hygiene Management) training for women and girls, and rehabilitating two water sources, benefiting around 240 families with access to clean water. The project also focused on gender issues by establishing three safe spaces for survivors of violence, providing MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support) and legal services, and resolving 45 cases of violence. Additionally, 280 NFI kits were distributed to vulnerable women and girls, and a KAP assessment informed further violence prevention interventions. Overall, the project improved sanitation, health, and gender support services, while offering short-term employment through community-based WASH and water resource projects.

Education, and providing humanitarian services

The Education and Promoting Peace, and Providing Humanitarian Services project, funded by TDH – Terre des Hommes Germany, ran from July 1, 2021, to December 31, 2023, in Ghor province, targeting IDPs, refugees, and marginalized communities. With a total of 8,763 beneficiaries, the project aimed to improve education, provide income generation opportunities, and foster social cohesion. Key activities included organizing Community-Based Education (CBE) classes, which saw over 750 students participate, including a dedicated class for refugees. The project also offered vocational training to 50 IDPs and marginalized community members, helping them develop skills for sustainable livelihoods. Additionally, peace-building events were held, benefiting more than 150 individuals. The project successfully enhanced education, supported economic independence, and contributed to improving social harmony in the region.

Embroidery Support Project (Goldozi)

The Embroidery Support Project (Goldozi), funded by Promote-USAID, aimed to empower women and girls in Herat and Farah provinces by providing professional Goldozi (embroidery) training and business capacity-building support. Running from November 1, 2022, to December 15, 2023, the project reached 2500 beneficiaries. Key activities included training over 1760 women in Goldozi embroidery and offering capacity-building workshops covering self-management, business management, marketing, costing and pricing, and small loans. These trainings helped participants gain essential skills to start and manage their businesses, improve financial literacy, and understand market dynamics. The project also promoted female entrepreneurship, helping women break gender barriers and establish themselves as successful business owners. By providing the necessary tools, knowledge, and support, the project fostered economic empowerment and created opportunities for women in Herat and Farah.

Women Empowering through Enterprise Development (WEED)

The Women Empowering through Enterprise Development (WEED) project, funded by CAFOR, aimed to enhance the livelihoods of women and girls in Herat, Afghanistan, by providing training and support for entrepreneurship and income generation. Running from December 19, 2022, to November 19, 2023, the project reached 250 beneficiaries, focusing on building financial literacy, business startup skills, and vocational training. Key activities included providing training on entrepreneurship, business planning, market analysis, and financial management, along with specialized tailoring classes for women and adolescent girls to develop practical skills for income generation. Additionally, the project supported women in poultry farming and distributed toolkits to help women and girls start their businesses. The program successfully empowered women to create micro-enterprises, especially in dairy production and improved their ability to generate income and become self-sufficient entrepreneurs.

Women Empowerment Project (WEP)

The Women Empowerment Grants (WEP) project aims to strengthen women’s rights, reduce gender-based violence (GBV), and empower women in Badqis province, Afghanistan. The project, funded by OMC and implemented by the Human Welfare & Public Service Development Organization (HWPSDO), ran from January 27, 2022, to July 31, 2023. It focused on enhancing gender equality, increasing women’s social and civic participation, and advocating for women’s rights through training, advocacy, and capacity-building activities.
